First of all it a hdmi stick , you can’t change location it has to go into the hdmi socket at the back of the tv . How did it get a license it’s a hazard waiting to happen . The home owner can monitor the device 24 seven in case it over heats. This device is not fit for use . They also say use the free extender cable. I tried to obtain one and was told we
don’t ship to your area , but they no problem shipping the over heating box to my area. The extender cable should be sent out with all new boxes. The box should carry a warning about the over heating
Thanks, Seos for sharing your valuable experience with us. I hope the above guide could help you to fix your Roku stick overheating issue. You can ping me if you have any other issues.
None of the “fix” options suggested works. I bought my own hdmi extender and the stick is now in front (and to the side) of the TV, hanging from the cords and touching a wooden base by one corner of the stick. It is never in direct sunlight. There is plenty of air around it, and it is not in a cabinet. I have to unplug it from the power supply EVERY night or, if I forget, I have to unplug it the next day to let it cool down. It is the power supply/roku stick combination that is overheating the device. This constant need to unplug the power supply cord from the device cannot be good for the device connection. The device is poorly made, and there is no way to apply a heat sink because it is encased in plastic. If one googles “Roku and overheat,” there are literally dozens and dozens of complaints/articles about this problem. There ought to be a recall/free replacement with a fixed version or discount on same. Roku’s unwillingness to address the real problem makes their whole brand look poorly. I would be very dubious about the purchase of any future Roku product because of this.
Sorry to hear that, in this situation, you should have contact the Roku customer executive and told them about the issue because most cases the tips works, and many of getting good results.
